It’s important to service and clean all equipment before it’s stored at the end of the season, however cleaning and properly servicing your sprayer is at the top of the list. Oftentimes the spraying season is such a short window—and you don’t want to lose days getting your equipment in working order when the time comes. Here are a few tips to ensure your sprayer will continue to stay on track, season after season.

  • Drain and clean the tank and components. Cleaning your sprayer tank is a highly sensitive process due to the different products it requires. Before cleaning your tank, make sure to read any labels to ensure you have the right protective clothing and that you are in a location where the chemicals can be properly removed. Always use clean water to remove corrosive residue and pay special attention to flush sumps and pumps, the top of the spray tank and around baffles, plumbing fixtures, and agitation units, as those are areas where spray solutions can accumulate.
  • Take a look at nozzle wear. Spray nozzle tips can wear over time, with dry chemicals in suspension causing higher rates of wear than liquid chemicals. That’s why it’s important to check the nozzle flow rates, look for potential problems and confirm the accuracy of the spray. Replace any nozzles if needed. If you are storing your sprayer for the winter, remove nozzle tips and nozzle bodies from the nozzle body assemblies.
  • Look into storage options. Once your sprayer is thoroughly cleaned and damaged parts are removed, look into storing it at an indoor location away from other chemicals that may corrode the hardware and paint on the sprayer. Also consider adding antifreeze throughout the sprayer to avoid rusting and damage over the winter months.
